Adding Recipes
There are several ways to add recipes to your collection, making it easy to build your personal library in whatever way works best for you. You can import recipes directly from other websites using our URL feature, which automatically pulls in key details. If you prefer more control, you can create your own recipes manually using the “Create Recipe” form on the “Your Recipes” page. Additionally, you can browse existing recipes and quickly add them to your collection from the “Recipes” page, allowing you to save and organize dishes you like with just a few clicks.
Uploading URL
To upload a recipe from another website, start by navigating to the site you want to import from and copy the recipe URL to your clipboard. Then go to the Your Recipes page in PantryPal and paste the link into the text box labeled “Upload Recipe from Website.” Click the submit button to begin the import process.
Note: Not all recipe websites are currently supported. If you receive an error message, it means that the website you’re trying to import from is not yet compatible with PantryPal.
If the upload is successful, a form will appear with the information gathered from the website. You can review and edit any details as needed. Once youre satisfied, click “Save” to add the recipe to your collection.
Creating your own recipe
To create your own recipe from scratch, navigate to the Your Recipes page. On the left side of the screen, you will find a form where you can enter all the necessary details about your recipe, including uploading a photo.
To add ingredients, click the "+" button to create a new entry. Enter the ingredient name in the left field and the quantity in the right field. Once you have finished creating your recipe, click "Save" to add it to your collection.
Saving and editing other's recipes
Any recipe on our site may be saved by you. If you click the recipe you will be taken to a recipe info page where you will find a "add to collection" button. This button saves the recipe directly to your collection where you may edit it.
Searching Recipes
To use the search functionality on our website, navigate to the Recipes page. On the left side of the screen, you will find several search tools and filters to help you find recipes.
The top search bar allows you to search by recipe title. For example, if you want to find recipes with the word "chicken" in the title, simply enter "chicken" and click "Search."
The INCLUDE section lets you filter recipes by ingredients they must contain. For instance, to find recipes that include both chicken and rice, enter "chicken, rice" and click "Search."
The EXCLUDE section works the same way, but instead filters out recipes containing the listed ingredients.
Editing Recipes
To edit a recipe in your collection, click the "Edit Recipe" link located at the top of the recipe’s information section. This will take you to an edit form where you can update nearly every aspect of the recipe, including the title, ingredients, instructions, and photo.
Once you have made your desired changes, be sure to save your updates so they are applied to your recipe. Please note that the author field cannot be modified.
Profile Tips
Adding and removing staples
Everyone has staple ingredients they like to keep on hand. PantryPal lets you add your personal staples to your profile so you can search for recipes based on what you already have available. This feature also helps provide more accurate grocery cost estimates by accounting for ingredients you don’t need to purchase.
To add staple ingredients, enter a single item or a comma-separated list into the text field and click "Add." Your staples will then be saved to your profile for future use.
To remove a staple, simply click the "x" icon next to the ingredient you want to delete. To learn how to use your saved staples when searching for recipes, refer to the "Searching Recipes" section on this page.
